Now that you have some knowledge about what muscular strength is, it is time to learn more about how to develop and maintain this component of fitness.

The first website below was created by Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University. To learn more of the benefits, principles, and to see a basic strength training program click and read the first site below labeled Muscular Strength Training.

This second website below is similar to a Power Point presentation. Once you read the first slide, click on the next button. This will move you on to the next slide. This website gives simple examples of how the FITT principles can be used to help anyone build or maintain their muscular strength. The second site is labeled FITT Principle for Muscular Strength Training. Click on it to learn more.

1. Using the websites list below, pick two upper body exercises. One must be done with weights, the other without. Using the FITT principles, write down a weekly workout that could be done for each exercise to improve muscular strength.

2. Using the websites list below, pick two lower body exercises. One must be done with weights, the other without. Using the FITT principles, write down a weekly workout that could be done for each exercise to improve muscular strength.




Example: Upper body
Frequency- 3 times per week
Intensity- 3 sets of 10 resting 1 minute between sets
Time- No more than 5 minutes total
Type- Pushups/calisthenics
