Conferencing Writing

Two sites, Epsilon and Omegon, have found that conferencing with students to give feedback and help students set goals for their writing is invaluable when it comes to improving student writing.

After a baseline score is established, students meet with a language arts instructor or reading specialist to discuss their relationship and experiences with writing and to set an personal improvement goal for their writing. This goal may be general or align with specific areas of the rubric.

Each student is given a score tracker to keep track of his/her  improvement from essay to essay. When a student meets his/her individual writing goal he/she is publicly celebrated. Students who have meet their goal have an abbreviated follow up conference to set a new goal and the process is repeated.
