Ideas to build hand strength/fine motor coordination

[Activities can be modified based off age and level of functioning]


  • Use vertical surfaces (write or paint on easel, magnets, SmartBoard activities, tape paper to wall)

  • Squeeze (stress ball, putty, play doh, sponges, spray bottle)

  • Art activities

  • Crinkle paper (try using 1 hand only)

  • Cut with scissors

  • Tearing paper

  • “Walk” a ball up and down leg, across table, etc…

  • Lacing or stringing activities

  • Stickers

  • Write on chalk board (use chalk or paint brush with water)

  • Magna-Doodle

  • Maze worksheets

  • Color with broken crayons (or mini markers)
