What is the Self-Advocacy Inventory?
Self Advocacy Inventory (SAI) - is a self assessment and monthly tracking tool that was developed over the past 5 years from on-going dialogue with District 287 Transition age students about what was working and not working during unstructured and structured times at school/in class, on the job as well as social groups within and outside of their school day.
Increasing self awareness and self management are in alignment with the CASEL/ District 287 Social Emotional Learning standards and benchmarks & BAT assessment
Self-Advocacy Profile (SAP)- can be created at any point in time from the SAI to support the student in advocating for themselves (student must understand self-disclosure and when to use the document). This document can be modified as the the student changes, gains skills and has new experiences.
The SAP can be a tool to assist students as they transition from school to adult life (community supports such as VRS would be informed of this document and included the SAP would discussed at the exit IEP meeting)
