Course Introduction

Introduction
Estimated Completion Time: 1 hour

Step 1: Make your way through this series of pages: Course Preparation (Seriously, click that link) to verify that you know what you're getting yourself into. You will find out more information about what tools you need to get started and what the course expectations will be. The link above is required.

Step 2: Icebreaker 10,000

In addition to the Introduction forum, there are 3 other forums you'll want to keep your eye on: Announcements; Help Forum and Apropos of Nothing. That will be one of the methods of communication in this class. You can access all forums by clicking Forums in the Activities Block on the left. Posting in forums helps your course participation grade (assuming that you aren't just posting quick little, "I agree!" type messages. See the Forum Posting Directions for more details.

One last thing, I receive feedback from almost every student who takes this course and I want to share the two most common comments with you because students who finish want you to see this:

First, don't procrastinate! There is a lot of work to do and if you save it until the end you will have a very difficult time and may not finish by your end date.

Second, follow directions closely! This will save you the time of having to submit assignments multiple times. Don't assume that you know what the assignment is asking for until you've read the directions carefully.

Seriously, almost every student who has finished this course wanted you to see that, so take those warnings into considerations and work to submit assignments regularly.

The only other thing that I would add to that as the instructor is that if you wait until the end of your time to submit your work then there is less time for me to help you and less time for you to make the improvements you will need as you start thinking about college. This course is guaranteed to make you a better writer but I can't help you if you don't have time to take my feedback into consideration. If you wait until the end when so many students are submitting work then I may not have as much time to give you specific feedback either.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since there are students in this course working on Semester, Trimester and Quarter credits some of the content is not available (like the next unit for instance). Use your course checklists to determine which content you should complete. You will likely not even be able to access the pages that you do not need for your credit. Because of this, you will not be added to your correct grouping until after you submit your first forum post assigned above. Once you submit that post I will add you to the appropriate grouping as soon as possible (less than 24 hours after your icebreaker post). Some of you are working on Semester credits even though your school is on Trimester schedules. This is because of your block scheduling. The student information system in which you registered is where I get the information from about which section you should be taking.
