Authoring a "Primary Document": Surviving the Black Death
Students will choose to assume the identity of a member of medieval society in Europe in the mid 1300's, including where the individual resides and his occupation. Suggestions about an identity include but are not limited to: a peasant, a farmer, a merchant, a priest, a nobleman (or woman), a king, the Pope, etc.
Students will then choose to write a document describing their experience, or in some way placing themselves within the The Black Death as it's happening. Types of documents that could be written include but are not limited to a letter, a will, a legal order, a medical report, etc. Students should be specific about who the document is directed to and for what purpose. The document should be at least 2 pages long and include descriptive details based on what they learned during their study of the Black Death prior to this portion of the project.
