Algebra Academy

Resources Page
The Algebra Academy is a chance for teachers and support staff to explore the mathematics behind the math they are teaching to students.  We will consider some of the misconceptions students have about math and strategies that might help you help students make more sense out of mathematics.  You’ll have a chance to assess your students in different ways and discuss among colleagues what to do with the results.  We will focus specifically on number and algebraic ideas that most impact how well students do in algebra.  We’ll delve in what students really think about the equal sign, how to get students to make connections among ideas in math, improving basic fact knowledge, the role of effort, strategies for fractions and decimals and how to get students to develop more  “math sense.”  Being successful in algebra is a multi-year development – the more students “get” math over the years the more likely they are to “get” algebra.
