04 - Media Watchdog Groups

Because most of the media that we have easy access to is owned by large corporations, there are some organizations who feel that the information that we receive has an inherent bias. Additionally, how likely are we going to see stories that criticize some of these corporations if they actually own the news organizations doing the reporting?

That is why there are now a number of agencies to try to call out reporters when there is a determined bias in the reporting. They are called Watchdog Groups. Here are a few that you'll want to check in with from time to time.

FactCheck - Typically this organization reports on the claims made from various politicians that has been reported in the media. It's a great source of information to determine if something someone said is true or not.

PolitiFact - This one is fun because it has little graphics to go along with claims to let people know if something is true or not.

Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) - This organization challenges media bias when they find it.

Spend some time reviewing these sites and read at least one of the articles. You'll be asked about it very soon...
