developmental stages/signs of readiness

Developmental Pre - Writing Skills:

·         Has a hand preference
·         Visually attentive
·         Has a neat pincer grasp or modified pincer grasp (index finger and thumb or index, middle finger and thumb)
·         Has strength to maintain pincer grasp with web space
·         Bilateral hand coordination (one stabilizes/one manipulates)
·         Crossing midline – assists with writing across paper
·         Visual tracking (horizontally and vertically)
·         Rests arm and hand on table (taping paper to blackboard or lying on stomach facilitates weight bearing and better position of hand and wrist)
·         Coloring within lines (start large areas and get smaller)
·         Has a functional pencil grip, efficient and functional that allows for controlled movements
·         Change coloring direction without moving the paper
·         Controlled movement progression begins whole arm, forearm, wrist and hand, whole hand, hand and fingers, isolated fingers
 
When begin printing do they recognize/use consistent descriptive instruction

Sensory – Body and Spatial Awareness

Perceptual– Visual-Motor, Visual-Perceptual and Attention

Cognitive – capacity by which acquires organizes and uses knowledge    

Then a student is able to successfully use ‘Writing to learn’
